The greatest challenge faced in the assembly of automobile has been cross threading. Assembly
failures due to cross threading and galling are both disruptive and expensive.

The innovative MAThread® completely eliminates this problem, lowering costs for auto makers.
It was realized that MAThread is not only the solution to this problem but almost all the problems associated with car assembly, which accounts for approximately 97% of the problems.

MAThread® is advantageous because it is unaffected by excess paint and it is sensitive towards tool speed. They correct off-angle installations and force component alignment without thread damage as well as improve operator ergonomics by reducing repetitive stress.

MAThread® immensely saves cost because it eliminates the money outflow associated with assembly failures, repairs, scrap, downtime, as well as the need for warranty service. This adds up to multibillion dollars saved for major car companies from rework and labor. MAThread efficiency and reliability has made it a favorite among top companies who wish to curb expensive malfunctions which lead to fixing that’s free for consumers due to warranty and the like.

The discovery of MAThread® has revolutionized car manufacturing, drastically changing a process that was originally faulty as well as pricey. Now, with its introduction, it is not only capable and reliable, but also versatile and adaptable. It can be used for numerous products, giving almost a perfect fit for all. By choosing a MAThread capable company, you can be assured of cost efficiency and reduced labor, which will hugely dampen unnecessary spending and overtime.

Cold heading could be defined as a process whereby metal is forged at a very high rate in the absent of heat. It is also known as the process ‘Cold Forming’. A length of wire is sheared and the forced into a die. Imagine having a piece of metal and removing the parts to obtain a shape you desire. Cold heading takes different shaped metals and melds the parts together.

Cold heading has its advantages in many ways. It does not waste scrap as the amount of the same metal fully used because the amount of finished volume is the same as the volume of the initial blank. The production rate is higher in this process as it is possible to manufacture hundreds of parts in a matter of minutes. Besides that, it has a very high accuracy level. Hence, it saves time and is very economical. Cold forming can be used to manufacture a wide range of products because of its versatile design. This makes this process famous for its variability. Besides that, this process actually increases the strength of the components because the metal components are joined by a force instead of removing the scrap. The components will have higher shear strength as well as yield as a result of this process.

The cold heading process continues to evolve as its versatility is well-known in the industry as an economical alternative. It does not only manufacture simple bolts and screws, it is now able to manufacture more complex components as the machinery becomes increasingly advanced.

There are many different types of fasteners that are available. So, what are the criteria that you should focus on when looking for the right fastener manufacturer for your specific product demands?

First of all, you need to know that there are a wide range of fastener varieties to choose from, which includes screws, bolts, rivets, double end studs, etc… to name a few.

Fasteners are made of various types of materials and this is due to the nature of how they are used. You need specific materials for every different fastener. Stainless steel has always been the first choice for the manufacturing of fasteners. Some say that it is due to its ability to stand against the cosmetic corrosion, and also due to its nature that is much less magnetic compared to regular steel fasteners.

For your fast reference, there are many types of materials that can be chosen. It could be platinum, common steel, plastic or any other materials for custom made fasteners depending on their purpose.

One important aspect that you need to put into consideration before ordering your fasteners is to find out what technology is in place to manufacture it.

Implementing cold form technology allows fastener manufacturers to produce higher quality fasteners while keeping the production cost low. This technology also enables fastener manufacturers to provide fasteners with greater strength, reliability, and durability. It could also help to reduce the waste of raw materials compared to screw machining.

Another advantage would be that cold form technology enables engineers to prepare complicated fastener design and shapes in a single operation thus saving time and production cost.

Specialty Screw Corporation would be happy to help you with any questions regarding you fastener concerns. Please contact us at: www.SpecialtyScrew.com

MATPoint® is one of the many available designs of MAThread®. The others are MAThread® dog point, MAThread® PPoint and MAThread® Radiused Point.

They are all extremely versatile and feed well in the application. The MAThread forces the two thread helixes to align, every time, without fail. The fasteners then drive easily, with reduced effort. MATPoint works with all types of nuts and internal threads, including lock nuts, making it very useful. It has unrivaled anti-cross thread performance whereby the MATPoint® never cross threads.

This is backed with a hundred percent success record. It makes paint cutters obsolete due to the fact that it is unaffected by paint in internal threads or excess paint. This new technology has changed the course of car assembly. Installers exclaim that it “glides in” and they are ecstatic over its ease and efficiency.

It aligns components by itself, even the must stubborn situations. This is done by MATPoint® finding holes and forcing itself straight up. It also fixes clogged internal threads because it slides through paint build ups.

It is user friendly and versatile, and more importantly, it never fails to work. Its superior performance level makes it attractive and trustworthy to all investors and it lives up to their expectation.

What is a cold headed fastener? Cold Heading is a fast and more efficient method to produce both standard and special fasteners and custom shaped components. It is also known as Cold Forming.

This is what happens during the process. A slug of wire is cut off and pushed into a die. Once through, it is then bent in an outward direction, thus the name heading. Through this process, metal is formed and usually involves changing the diameter of a wire as an extrusion.

This method offers numerous types of equipment to head parts, from screws to shoulders to fasteners. Cold heading is superior to screw machining in the sense that the arts coming off are complete and has minimal scrap. It also generates significant raw material savings compared to that of screw machining. Cold heading fasteners have many advantages, for example, it can provide material savings of up to 70% as well as savings through its higher speed processes. It also improves product performance. Its process rearranges grain structure, improving shear strength performance and prevents grain flow interruptions.

Cold heading consistently provides higher quality because its surface will show the smooth condition and dimension of the dies, usually eradicating secondary finish. It also has the potential of converting multi part to single part, thus saving on many costs such as parts, labor, inspection, tolerance issues, and purchases. Furthermore, cold heading results in repetitious tight tolerance consistency. This process can be used as a combination of primary and secondary machining, to achieve part configuration where it may require a tighter tolerance, beyond the usual.

Many machined components can be re-designed as cold formed components for substantial cost savings. It is recommended to view all metal parts as candidates for Cold Heading when quantity minimums are 25,000 pieces or greater.

What is Cold Heading?

Cold Heading is also referred to as Cold Forming. Cold Heading/Forming is a fast and more efficient method to produce both standard and special fasteners and custom shaped components. The technology has been in place for over 150 years.

Cold Heading/Forming is a process where a slug of wire is cut off and pushed into a die. The protruding end is then upset in an outward direction; called HEADING. Through the process, metal is formed on the same axis and usually involves changing a diameter from the original wire size as an extrusion.

Cold Heading/Forming offers various types of equipment to cold head parts that can be as simple as a screw blank or more complicated shapes that may require multiple diameter configurations such as shoulders. Parts coming off a cold header are usually complete or near net finished with zero to minimal scrap, generating significant raw material savings compared to screw machining.

Cold Heading/Forming can be used as the primary manufacturing process in combination with secondary machining to achieve part configuration, where tolerances or the design may require tighter tolerances beyond the usual +/- .005 tolerance range that is associated with a cold headed/cold formed blank.

Advantages of Cold Heading / Cold Forming:

Cold Heading/Forming can provide material savings of up to 70% due to reduced scrap versus machining.

Cold Heading/Forming achieves savings through its higher-speed processes. Speeds range from 50 to 300 pieces.

Cold Heading/Forming can improve product performance. Unlike screw machining where grain flow is interrupted, the cold heading process rearranges the grain structure increasing shear strength performance.

Cold Heading/Forming provides for consistent higher quality as surface finish will mirror the smooth condition and dimensions of the dies; usually eliminating secondary finishing.

Cold Heading/Forming results in repetitious tight tolerance consistency.

Cold Heading/Forming offers the potential to convert multi part units to a single part therefore saving on parts, labor, inspection, tolerance issues, purchases, inventory coordination and assembly time while improving strength and product output.

Material Choices – Virtually all commercial metals processed by machining are available as wire for cold forming.
