Specialty Screw Corporation of Rockford Illinois upgraded its part cleaning operations by adding a new parts washer utilizing Ransohoff’s latest cleaning technology, PRO-CLEAN DRUM ™. With the aqueous alkaline continuous part cleaning and additional stages for rinsing and rust inhibiting. An additional oil decanting system for removing oils from the cleaning solution. All added up to parts being cleaner, processed faster while reducing downtime.

Aqueous cleaning effectively removes heading and secondary oils from our fastener blanks making feeding and assembly of parts much more efficient. As part of Specialty Screw’s continuous improvement in the area of energy conservation, plans are being implemented for solar thermal heating of the 240 gallon rinse tank. The payback for the solar installation will be accelerated by trading equivalent carbon credits.

The reaction so far by employees of Specialty Screw Corporation has been very positive. The automatic tank filling option allows for much easier monitoring during the day. The larger drum size has allowed the throughput of fasteners cleaned to double. The new technology and tank auto filing will help reduce downtime.

Specialy Screw Saves Energy

The current relamping of our fastener manufacturing plant in Rockford, IL completes a plant wide relamping that had its initial start in 1998. Replacing 264 T12 florescent fixtures with high efficiency T8 units and reflectors. The new units use half the energy while maintaining the same lighting levels. With a ComEd rebate of 50% of the cost and a Federal Energy Credit on taxes, results in less than a 1 year payback.

Another area for energy conservation that Specialty Screw Corporation is investigating is the utilization of solar concentrators to preheat our aqueous parts washer fluid that has a total of 600 gallons of processing for our new three stage parts washer being delivered in September 2008. With integrated filtering equipment, the new parts washer from Ransohoff will further reduce our waste processing fluids in half, which originally we reduced in half when Safety-Kleen installed a waste water recycling unit back in 1998.
